St. Mark’s Faith Promise Prayer Targets 2018
June 10
North Korea (Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea)
Approximately 24 million people live in this country occupying the northern part of the Korean peninsula. The country is led by a totalitarian dictator, Kim Jong-un.
Religion here, as in most Communist countries, is neither valued nor appreciated by the ruling regime. 2.5% of the population is reported to be Christian.
Access to the Gospel is primarily available via Bibles and radios which must be smuggled into the country. Those caught smuggling Christian literature or promoting Christianity are subject to execution.
North Korea maintains a large network of concentration camps where “enemies of the state” are imprisoned under harsh conditions.
Through relentless evangelism and prayer efforts, Christians in South Korea often take great risks to share the Gospel by whatever means possible with family members and friends trapped in the North since cessation of open conflict during the Korean War.
There is a possibility that the North will be open to some reforms granting more freedom to its people and the practice of Christianity. The on-again, off-again summit with the North, South and USA may help the people of the North.
Ways to pray:
Pray that people of the North will hear the Gospel by means of Bibles and radio. (Computers, phones, internet and television are highly censored and not widely available.)
Pray that Chinese Christian business persons who have access to the country will make opportunities to share their faith in Jesus Christ. Pray for their protection.
Pray for the NGO’s which can operate inside the country. Specifically, that the Christians working for these groups will have and will take advantage of opportunities to tell the eternal grace-story of redemption and hope in Jesus Christ.
Pray for those negotiating the possible summit including the North, South and USA.
Pray for the leaders of these key countries: Donald Trump, Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un. They need wisdom beyond human understanding. Pray that they will be used by God as instruments to deliver the Gospel to this repressed and persecuted people.
Pray for the fledgling Church of North Korea. Lift these brave and persecuted saints for assurance, faithfulness, hope, and love. Pray that those who would persecute them will be blinded to the Church’s work to share of the Gospel.
Prayer notes:
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? Romans 10:14 (NIV)

Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran)
This country, with a population exceeding 75 million people, includes fewer than 1% who are Christian. The predominate religion is Islam.
The population of Iran under the age of 30 represents nearly 67% of the total population. This group has grown disillusioned with the policies, politics, economics and restrictions of Iranian leadership.
A great many Christians and other groups have left the country due to oppression and persecution over the past 50 years. This emigration is referred to as the “Iranian Diaspora.” Emigrants have settled in many Western Countries. Immigration has become more difficult due to restrictions imposed by these countries.
Ways to Pray:
Pray for the younger generation. During this time of searching, they may be uniquely open to hearing the Gospel of freedom, hope and human value. This generation is turning toward hedonism and materialism. Pray for the Gospel to get a hearing in the hearts of this large people group and for their heart to be open to God’s love and purposes.
Pray for the people of the Iranian Diaspora. As this group makes its home in new locations, they are more accessible than ever to the Gospel work of the Church.
Pray for evangelism and outreach efforts among these groups in various countries around the world. Pray for the diaspora Church that has birthed among these people groups.
Prayer notes:
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? Romans 10:14 (NIV)
